Emma Heuchan, MSc CPDT-KA

I dedicate my time to learning how to help dogs like yours. I have a Master of Science degree in animal behaviour and welfare from the University of Guelph, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto in psychology and evolutionary biology. I have taken courses on animal cognition, learning, and emotion to understand how we can motivate our dogs to be respectable members of society with fun and compassionate training. I currently train for competition in agility, obedience, scent detection and tracking with my smooth collie, Tristan.

Training Philosophy

My training methods prioritize positive reinforcement to motivate your dog using food, toys, and other rewards. I avoid techniques and training tools likely to cause your dog fear or pain. My training approach is informed both by learning theory and by animal welfare science to identify methods that are effective for you and gentle for your dog.
