Evan Heuchan, MSc CPDT-KA

I dedicate my time to learning how to help dogs like yours. I have a Master of Science degree in animal behaviour and welfare from the University of Guelph, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto in psychology and evolutionary biology. I have taken courses on animal cognition, learning, and emotion to understand how we can motivate our dogs to be respectable members of society with fun and compassionate training. I began my practical education assisting trainers with their obedience and agility classes for several years before I graduated to leading the group obedience and puppy classes at Wizard of Paws in Georgetown, as well as handling many behaviour modification cases. Now I focus on solving behaviour problems on location in your home or neighbourhood. In addition to training pet and sport dogs, I work as an explosives detection K9 handler and train my own dog for competition in obedience, scent detection and tracking.

Training Philosophy

My training methods prioritize positive reinforcement to motivate your dog using food, toys, and other rewards. I avoid techniques and training tools likely to cause your dog fear or pain. My training approach is informed both by learning theory and by animal welfare science to identify methods that are effective for you and gentle for your dog.
